As we age there are many health problems that may affect us, but for men there are some specific problems that they can be aware of – things to look out for and things that may not be any cause for concern. The main thing to remember is that if you think something is a problem then it is always best to consult a doctor.

For men in particular, there are some health problems that are more likely over the age of fifty – here are the main ones to look out for…

High Blood Pressure – High blood pressure is something that doesn’t have a set of symptoms, but it carries significant health risks. It can be hereditary, so it is important to regularly check your blood pressure especially if a family member has high blood pressure. If you make healthy changes to your lifestyle such as cutting down on alcohol and eating healthily you will be at lower risk of developing it.

Male Pattern Baldness – This is a common condition in men, and like high blood pressure it is hereditary. The good news however is that it doesn’t carry any health risks – in fact around half of all the men in the UK start to go bald or have gone bald by the time they reach fifty. If you are not keen on being hair-free, there are places like His Hair Clinic where you can have scalp micropigmentation.

Problems with the Prostate – The prostate gland is part of the male sex organs and as you get older it can become problematic. It is important to visit your doctor if you have been worrying about this or think that you have symptoms of prostate problems.
