Breaking a leg or injuring it can be very debilitating. Depending on your health and age, it can take a while to heal and even longer to fully recover. It is not until an injury like this happens that people realise how much they took the basic ability to walk for granted. Recovery is hard, especially as you get older, but I will try to help by sharing a few tips for recovering from a leg injury.

Firstly, go slowly. Do not put too much pressure on yourself to recover quickly. It’s better to have the expectation that it will be a long process, and you can be pleasantly surprised if you recover fully earlier than you thought. This is better than getting frustrated you are not getting better as fast as you would like. A crucial part of recovery is to not push yourself. If you try to do too much, you could actually lengthen the recovery process. If you start trying to exercise before you are ready, you will be at a high risk of re-injuring yourself. This is obviously the last thing you want to happen, so be careful.

Next, find a physiotherapist to help you with your recovery. They will be able to show you gentle exercises to support your leg muscles and bones. The effects and improvements are gradual, but definitely happen, so don’t expect to see instant results or give up too soon. If you are looking for physio Monmouth, I highly recommend Clinikind Physio Monmouth.

Lastly, try different forms of gentle, low impact exercises that are designed to keep you fit whilst in recovery. Water aerobics and hydrotherapy are activities that are proven to help with muscle recovery and strengthening.
