Since the start of the pandemic, something that many of us have a much greater awareness of now is the need for cleanliness. As well as creating a nicer environment for us to live and work in, this also reduces the spread of illnesses and can help to prevent us from getting poorly.

Our workplaces are areas that particular care should be taken with to keep clean – companies like this contract cleaning Cheltenham based service biggreencleaning.co.uk can provide professional cleaning for offices and help to keep the place hygienic and pleasant.

Something that is a tell-tale sign of the need to step up hygiene in a workplace is an infestation of certain pests – here are a few to look out for that may signify that you need to step up the cleaning in the workplace…

Rats and Mice – These creatures are renowned for spotting opportunities left by humans and a work environment is no different. They can fit through tiny gaps and are superb climbers. Food that is left out will certainly attract them, so make sure that there is nothing lying around to tempt them. They are responsible for illnesses such as hantavirus, E Coli and Salmonella, and they can spread these easily as they move across surfaces.  They can also be incredibly destructive and chew through walls and electrical equipment, so this is another good reason not to have anything to attract them!

Cockroaches – These creatures are associated with unsanitary places and can quickly infest a place once they are in. They feed on bits of food, as well as cardboard and even faeces, and are attracted to damp areas. The most likely places that you might spot them is in kitchens and toilets, but once they are in, they can easily make their way around the building, often through pipes and ventilation systems. Cockroaches can spread nasty stomach bugs like Gastroenteritis.

Flies – As well as being an unpleasant presence in the workplace, flies are also known for spreading germs. They will look for remains of food, so in particular might be found in a kitchen, which is another good reason to keep it clean. In the summer in particular, with open windows and food left out this can create a perfect spot for flies, and they can quickly breed and infest the area.
