There have been many incidents where oil has escaped from a tanker and made its way to shore. When this happens, it is one of the worst environmental disasters. Oil is a substance that has remained under the earth for a reason. Whilst it has proved incredibly useful and ended up powering the modern world, it is also a severe polluting agent if released into the ecosystem. So the primary way to try and clean up the problem is using Spill Kits like those from hydepark-environmental.com/spill-response/spill-kits. So what are some of the worst crude oil leaks?

  1. Exxon Valdez. This was the largest spill in history, with millions of barrels lost and miles of fragile Alsakan coastline covered in crude oil. It wasn’t only the shore that was affected. Thousands of animals were also covered with oil and would need to be saved. It was made worse because the area was challenging to clean up.

  1. Torrey Canyon. This was the worst oil spill that has happened off UK shores. It was made worse by the authorities’ inability to deal with the problem. The Cornish coast around Lands End and Sennen Cove was subjected to barrels and barrels of crude oil. The smell and effects of the leak were felt all the way up the coast in Newquay. It was nothing short of a disaster for an area that relied on tourism.
  2. The Deepwater Horizon spill was the most recent example, happening in 2010. Five hundred and seventy miles of Mexico’s coastline was coated in oil.
